Model, Anatomical |
Description |
This moulage is a sculpted, hollow model of the front of the head of an infant with a cleft palate. Current dental faculty said it was probably used as "a demonstration of anatomy for a cleft." Dr. Sean Edwards said he has heard that "Dr. Jim Hayward (James Rogers Hayward, b. 1920) used to take these before his primary lip repairs." He described the patient's lip in more detail as a cleft lip that is complete on the left and incomplete on the right. Alternately, in the scrapbook from the Cleft Palate Program (1930-1935 or later) at the School of Dentistry, we thought a photograph from April 26, 1930 could be of the baby whose face this cast was modeled from, if indeed the model was made at U-M. Found on a shelf in off-site storage, fall 2019. |
